Mrs. Roth and her middle school students made environmentally friendly cleaners in Science class. All Choices Academy teachers were provided with an environmentally friendly cleaner to use in their classroom! This helps Choices Academy so we can cut down on using cleaners that are not good for the environment.
The Choices Academy Community Garden project is an innovative solution to fulfill our student's needs. The garden will be a way that our school can integrate hands-on learning in an outdoor classroom space to support environmental education. It will also serve as a way to interact with the surrounding community by allowing the community to be a part of the planting, tending and harvesting process of the food being planted in the Hoop House. All of the food that is grown in the Hoop House will be given a purpose. Some food will be sent home with our students to families in need and some will be made available to the local community.
In 2018, we began planning the Choices Academy Community Garden. In 2019, thanks to our community partners and grants, we received the funding in order to install the fencing we need to put the garden on site. The Choices Academy Community Garden will become operational as soon as the fencing project is completed and all materials are received!

In June of 2019, we asked our high school science students to help us to come up with a name for the garden. While discussing our plans for the garden, our students talked about what growing food will mean for them and their community. We had some great ideas about eating healthy and growing healthy food! Our students created posters to display their ideas for naming the Choices Academy Community Garden. Using their designs and ideas, the Online Learning Lab teacher, Ms. Chalmers made some designs which became the logo and mottos for the Choices Academy Community Garden.
