Students learned about the native species of bats that inhabit the Maryland and the Eastern Shore. Students explored through the Maryland DNR website what those species needed to live, eat and survive in their native habitat. We then examine a few of the species that were in decline and began to devise ways that would encourage the proliferation of certain species in our area. High School Science Students researched designed bat houses in an effort to support the bat population. The bat boxes helped to establish a home for the bats during the day. Students created 6 Bat Boxes with the guidance of Mr. Hatton and another volunteer.
Students also learned about the native species of butterflies that inhabit the Maryland and the Eastern Shore. Students explored through the Maryland DNR website what those species needed to live, eat and survive in their native habitat. We then examine a few of the species that were in decline and began to devise ways that would encourage the proliferation of certain species in our area. We then used this information to create Butterfly gardens. The butterfly gardens will provide food for the butterflies.
